accommodation

There are plenty of places to stay near the conference site. (Here’s a collection compiled by the organizers of a recent conference.) The invited speakers will be in Hotel Museum, which is a decent place a few metres from one of the campus gates. Brody House is also very close, it’s an unusual place, which you may want to check out, but it’s not on the cheap side.

travel

If you arrive at BUD airport, the cheapest way to get into town is taking the 200E bus and changing for the metro line 3 at the bus’s other terminus. The two tickets cost slightly more than 2€. You may not get on the airport shuttle, which ceased to function on 31 Dec, but you may take a taxi (we advise you to queue up for the official taxi booth outside the gates, don’t try the drivers roaming around the arrival gates unless you know what you’re doing).

There are convenient public transportation lines from all the railway and bus stations to most parts of the city. Tickets are not time based, you have to validate one on each vehicle you take (except on the metro). On many buses you can only get up at the front door and have to show your ticket to the driver. A single ticket is 350Ft (about 1.2€), you can buy 10 for 3000Ft (about 10€). Ticket vending machines accept cash and cards. Many drivers also sell tickets but that’s more expensive and only cash is accepted. There are 1- and 3-day passes too, the latter costs as much as 13 single tickets. More about prices… You can always take a taxi, fares are fixed.

If you happen to find accommodation further from the campus, you may check public transport timetables with BKK Futár. Enter your departure point in slot A, the link contains your destination in slot B. The metro stations closest to the campus are Astoria and Kálvin tér.

You can also rent bikes, but make sure to check the weather before your decision.
