I just realized that there was a new record for "people present" on the forum. That's nice. It seems that the greed for information and good advertising have brought results... 8)

I can only agree with anybody before me... 8) I was looking for such a way of communication for a long time. I think it will be very useful, and according to the number of people who have already registered, it won't stay unnoticed! :D

Hey,

Just checkin in...hope this will get popular, otherwise it will be just one of those initiatives that yield no results, and it will be only our fault.

I am not quite sure those things should be tolerated here

Currently, the only discussion board engine advanced than phpbb is Vbulletin, but that is a licensed software that costs either 85 dollars a year, or 160 dollars for an unlimited license. Something I'm afraid ELTE is not really able (nor willing, I presume) to purchase.

Hi there!

At first, I fully agree with Adam Dobay on what he said about organising posts/topics/forums/board.

Secondly, I'd like to mention that creating this forum was a very good idea. Thanks admin!

Peter

much belated, yes. my final semester on ADS. could've used all the cheat sheets that will (or will not) pop up here.
advice to admin: open an unmoderated category where students can rant; forum will rise in popularity quickly.

phpbb was a fine choice for a forum engine.

Good morning,
I would like to make a quick suggestion regarding the forum's system.
As you might now the phpbb system involves four basic board levels. The smallest is 'post', which is what I am writing now. The second level is 'topic', in which these posts are. The third level is 'forum' which is visible under the fourth and final category, 'board'.

It is also important to note that any number of topics can be opened in a forum and any number of forums can be opened on a board. To create a good structure, forums should still cover larger categories of topics. Also, any user can create a topic while only administrators can create boards and forums.

This is why I would like to propose that such categories like "ANN-142/e" should be a topic and not a forum, both for aesthetic and structural reasons. For if a forum is created for all courses in every semester, that would create an unnecessarily large number of forums (all to be loaded on the main page) while I do not think that for one course there can be more than one or two related topics. I think the same for the "looking for 199/299 pairs" forum.

Another, I think more coherent grouping would be, inside the "Courses" board, forums such as "ANN-1XX courses", "ANN-2XX courses" and so on.

Finally, a few other suggestions for forums. Outside the courses board there could be a board for general academic discussion, such as discussion of topics of literature, discussion of linguistics, etc. More general topics, perhaps placed in a Lounge type of forum, could include "cheap restaurants and shops around ADS", introductions of forum users to each other, and so on.

Hello,
It was a great idea to open this forum! :D
The only problem is that I'm in my 5th year, won't be able to benefit from it for long. Wish we had it 4 years ago.
Better late than never. 8)

We are slowly opening the forum. New categories and boards will be created as we go. You can ask forumAdministrator to create new categories, boards, groups etc. etc.
