well, it's their problem. that heads don't read the forum is our problem. that's the difference.

Thanks for shedding some light on the legal background. In any case, these rules still give considerable leeway to heads of department.

That's a bit disappointing. (I mean, the fact that dept heads don't read the forum. I guess many students don't either, but that's another story. Or is it? :?)

ETVSz 42. §

(1) A tanári óraterhelésbe beszámítható kurzus akkor tartható meg, ha arra a tárgyfelvételi időszak végéig a kurzusra megállapított minimális létszámú hallgató, de legalább 5 fő jelentkezett.

(2) A (1) bekezdés alól kivételt képez az a kurzus,

a) amely olyan szak kötelező vagy kötelezően választható kurzusa, ahol a mintatanterv szerinti (lásd 36. § (7) bekezdés) létszám kisebb, mint 20;

b) amelynek technikai feltételei ennél kisebb maximált létszámot indokolnak;

c) amelyet a mintatanterv szerinti haladás biztosítása érdekében hirdettek meg (lásd 36. § (3) bekezdés).

ETVSz 43. §

In my opinion these two paragraphs are in contrast with each other, but anyways, these are the rules.

I wonder if there are some "guidelines" or rules of thumb at SEAS concerning course cancellations due to the small number of participants. Like "seminars with less then x participants are automatically cancelled" or something. The reason I ask is because I happened to end up in a rather sparsely populated Friday morning course and now I am rather anxious as to whether it is going to be cancelled or not.

And if there are to be any such cancellations, when will they be announced? As students whose seminar was cancelled are supposed to find an alternative one during registration week, such cancellations (if there is to be any) should be announced prior to registration week, shouldn't they?

Hy,
Does anyone know anything about tomorrow? I mean that, as far as I know, there won't be any classes on TTK. However I don't know anything about BTK and PPK. (Thursday is special day for me, as I have classes on all the three faculties mentioned above... :lol: ) If anyone has any reliable information, please share it, so that I (and some other people) may avoid getting up early in vain. THX! :)

I know, its a bit too late, but Thursday is "Eötvös nap" on which day there are no classes at the "lágymányosi karok", but classes are held everywhere else. "Pázmány nap" on the 13th (spooky, isn't it) is general univ. holiday

Just to spice up this topic a little bit.

At my other major (which I will not disclose here) I got a grade and credit for a course that was cancelled during the first week of the semester.

Top that :lol:

This is the place where notices about occasional course cancellations should be posted. (Don't post unverified rumours please.)
