Ok, great!

Concerning the calculation system, I see your point.

Adam, could you obtain a place in that 300 course? Can we help?

Thank you, but Ms. Sollosy is back so her class is not cancelled after all, which solves my problem. A stroke of luck.

I understand that ETR calculates scores like this because it doesn't want "leftover" students to get higher places in the "versenyjelentkezés" period, but I think exactly because of this kind of course cancelling, things being realized etc. on the first week, the preregistration points should be given to everyone until the vágás.

I'm really sorry for you, but yours is an exceptional case. It is not ETR's fault that the dept's cancelled a course that you'd wanted to take. In fact, it's the dept's fault.

Otherwise, it is a very good idea to encourage students to do preregistration: it is essential for depts to know how many studens wanted to take a certain course.

I would like to post the following as a warning to future students about a - to me, inexplicable - rule in the ETR preregistration system unknown to me before but currently making my very last semester more challenging than I wanted it to be.

After preregistering for all the three 300-courses that are left for me to take to finish the English major, one of the courses was cancelled early this week. Taking another course, however, proved to be hard as the ETR system favours those who preregister with a hundred points, leaving a last-year student with one last course to take a hundred points below everyone else, with no chance of getting into most of the courses that are even close to what I wanted to study in my last term. I really liked how the old SEAS system favoured those (I think fairly), who have spent more time here, and while the ETR system claims to be doing that, it really doesn't work out in the end. Pretty odd, pretty irritating, and I would also go as far as to say unfair.

So for future reference, if you're taking any course, do it quickly in the preregistration period, or else you might find yourself dropping out of everything else.
