Insights from the Common European Framework of ReferenceThe Common European Framework of Reference, a.k.a. the „CEF”, or „KER” in Hungarian, was major development in the field of language teaching, learning and assessment in the first decade of the new millennium. This course will first review the CEF itself and then look into its development background, related projects and spinoffs. The participants of the course will investigate what language teaching, assessment and syllabus design insights it provides in terms of methodologies. Participants will be asked to report on reading, present their own insights, not in the least in terms of activities or tasks they might plan for their own classes. As the CEF has a lot to do with views of language proficiency, a discussion of subsequent conceptualisations of language proficiency will also be included. Since there is also a large number of scales (illustrative scales) in the CEF, participant will also learn about the design and application of scales in language education.
