Suff, Matthew, Thu 15:45–17:15, R 315/a, host: DEAL (R306)
2-credit seminar, 30 h/term; strong prereq: (TANM-ANG-103)
description & set texts
This course will provide practice in English pronunciation (principally RP and SSBE, but with some acknowledgement of other accents of the British Isles and North America, particularly with regard to the question of rhotic variants). It will not be especially theoretical, only using technical terminology to provide a taxonomic underpinning to the reasons why certain minimal pairs are indeed minimal pairs. Since it is aimed at prospective language teachers, attention will be paid to teaching strategies and activities.
requirements & assessment
Almost entirely based on attendance and participation, via mini-presentations.
