description & set texts
This course is going to focus on the conflicts of intercultural contact and communication, which are frequently and often tendentiously depicted in contemporary films. The analysis of the conflicts will be based on cultural dimensions: such analysis is expected to facilitate students’ understanding of the realities underpinning cultural dimensions. The course also aims to raise students’ awareness of the complex problems of contemporary multicultural societies, the issues of integration, acculturation, and their impact on a person’s identity. The in-depth analysis of the films will require reading professional literature as well as reviews and scholarly analyses of the works in question.
requirements & assessment
Assessment on the course will based on a seminar paper, a short presentation on a film we are going to cover, and active participation.
