This is an introduction to the methodology of literature criticism, where we focus on (i) the critical reading and writing strategies (annotating, previewing, outlining, summarizing, paraphrasing, synthesizing, questioning, contextualizing, etc.), (ii) how to make critical claims and use these claims to structure one’s critical thinking, (iii) how to “unpack” a critical-theoretical text and adopt the points unpacked there to one’s own thinking, (iv) how to research theoretical concepts and present them in teams.

Grades will be based on the individual presentations, class participation, and the team projects.
