This course, given in English, the first one in linguistics in your career, attempts to dispel false ideas any student may have about language and linguistics. Using the coursebook itself as well as some supplementary material in the lectures, it describes the compartments of linguistic science, familiarizes students with some of the notions of language acquisition, the compartments of language, the branches of linguistics; looks at distribution, variation, sense relations, and some of the tools of transcription, as well as morphological, semantic, and syntactic analysis.
