VPs, IPs, CPs
(Igei csoportok és mondatok) in autumn 2017
, Thu 12:00–13:30
seminar, 30 h/term; strong prereq: ANG-141
description & set texts
The course is based on chapters 5-8 of Newson et al: Basic English Grammar with Exercises and Radford, A. 1999. An Introduction to English Sentence Structure. Chapter 8. Any previous course on syntax is an asset given that the course discusses the structure of VPs, IPs and CPs (i. e. verbal projections, both thematic and functional) in detail. The course is a companion to the Advanced Lecture series inasmuch as it highlights practical rather than theoretical aspects of the syntax of verbal projections from a perspective that is based on the UTAH. By no means does it strive to replace the Advanced Syntax lectures in any sense, however, it provides an opportunity to discuss theoretical as well as practical issues related to the syntax of verbal projections in the given framework.
