3-credit seminar, 30 h/term
description & set texts
These seminars give you a glimpse of the main concerns of linguistics. The course looks at sounds, words, phrases & sentences, meaning, pragmatics, variation, and language history. Hopefully, it dispels some misconceptions about language & linguistics.

The reading for the seminar can be downloaded from

17 aut intro lingx semi – Reading

which is László Varga's Introduction to English Linguistics — A Companion to the Seminar.

Please print it out and bring it to the seminars at all times. Do not use an on-line version of the text in your own interests.
