The aim of this introductory lecture course is to provide students with an overview of some of the major issues in English applied linguistics. Some of the important topics to be discussed include second language learning theories, communicative competence, individual variables in language learning, language testing, psycholinguistics, pragmatics, discourse analysis, sociolinguistics, and world Englishes.
