The purpose of the course is to introduce students to current sentence analysis, which involves the ability to manipulate abstract structures, as is suggested in X-bar syntax. The coursebook is Liliane Haegeman's Thinking Syntactically, which is available on the Institute homepage in electronic format.
requirements & assessment
There will be six short quizzes during the term of which four must be written for a final grade. Seminar work, that is, oral contribution to the discussions will positively influence the final grade! Homework should be handed in on each session. Also, no more than three absences will tolerated.
