This course provides a description of the major phonological regularities of standard British English (or CUBE – Current British English). Some dialectal differences will also be discussed (Conservative British English RP, Standard General American, Scottish English, etc.). The course builds on the material students have studied in BBN–ANG–141 (Foundations of phonology lecture course).
