The primary aim of the course is to familiarize students with the major ideas, trends, literary genres, authors and pieces of Medieval and Renaissance English literature through pro- and interactive reading, analysis and interpretation of representative works by the major authors of the two eras, relying on and improving all the communicative skills required. Authors and works to be discussed: G. Chaucer,The Canterbury Tales(selected stories, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Mystery Plays:Noah's Flood, The Second Shepherds' Play, Morality plays:Everyman, Chr. Marlowe, Dr Faustus, W. Shakespeare, Sonnets (selected poems), A Midsummer Night's Dream, Richard III., Measure for Measure, King Lear, The Tempest , B. Jonson, Volpone
requirements & assessment
Requirements: regular attendance and preparation, close readings, conscious, conscientious and active participation in seminar work; individual and shared tasks in terms of presentations; one analytical in-class paper (quiz+essay) near the end of the term. Assessment: based on the performance of the above mentioned tasks
