description & set texts
This course consists of two parts: at the beginning of the course we will discuss the “art of translation” and then move on to practical aspects of translating various texts from Hungarian to English. More precisely, we’ll discuss methods and ways of carrying over meaning from one language to another, rather than just words, and consider some examples of good and problematic translations. Then we will continue with applying the learned methods to translating texts, covering varieties of topics and subjects.
