description & set texts
Popular culture in the 1960s and 1970s: Focus on music The 1950s, but especially the famous 1960s often appear to be the favourite hunting ground for the culture teacher – there are courses regularly given about these great decades. But what about the period after 1968? It seems as if history had ended during or after the student riots/protests in that year. History did not end there and then, in 1968. This course is designed to fill that gap by involving students in some content-based English teaching. Students will be learning about the issues, trends and some key events from that decade, with a good measure of popular music from the period thrown in, and through all this they will have an opportunity to improve their English. Requirements: regular attendance, active participation, home assignments, and short quizzes (only about 3 or 4 in the whole term). Assessment: on the basis of a set of criteria, according to the fulfilment of the requirements.
