The course aims to familiarise students with the world and words of law. By reading authentic legal texts, students will gain useful insight into the English legal system and international business law. The course will include introduction to forensic linguistics, the study of how language relates to law both in terms of linguistic evidence and legal discourse. The analysis of current documents (including EU materials) will enable the participants to explore the particular characteristics of English (vocabulary and grammar) used in various types of legal contexts. Audio/video materials and practical tasks will help students in their investigation of one of the most interesting fields of ESP (English for Specific Purposes).
