description & set texts
This course is intended to improve participants' overall English language competence, with the particular aim of helping them to prepare for the BBN-ANG-001 Language proficiency Examination. There will be a focus on expressing ideas in English clearly and in an appropriate style in both speech and writing, but other language skills will also be practised, and particular emphasis will be laid on grammar and vocabulary development. There will be regular written and oral tasks and weekly home assignments, and participants will also be expected to give short, in-class presentations. All participants will need a copy of Michael Vince's "Advanced language Practice", Macmillan, 2003 or later. Apart from working with material from the coursebook, a range of supplementary materials will be used covering topics and issues reflecting the interests of the participants themselves.
