This course lays the foundation for academic writing. The first quarter of the course will be an examination of sentence structures. The remainder of the course will focus on the paragraph using several patterns of development. Students will learn the process of writing: brainstorming, outlining, rough draft, first draft, peer review, and final draft. Students will be required to do in class exercises and write several carefully crafted paragraphs.

Students are required to attend class and actively participate; complete all assignments; do the in-class activities and readings; prepare drafts and do writing revisions; peer reviews (evaluate fellow student’s drafts with meaningful feedback); maintain a folder of assignments, readings and handouts; adhere to strict deadlines.
