Contemporary Theatre Animated I (Mai élő színház I.) in spring 2015
Pikli Natália, Thu 10:00–11:30, R423/a, host: DES (R338)
4-credit seminar, 30 h/term; strong prereq: ANG-001, 211
description & set texts
The course is primarily offered for students who specialise in 'Drama and Theatre' as part of their BA studies, but students with no such specialization track are also welcome if they are interested in theatre. The seminar will be organised as a workshop, one of the major objectives is to follow, comment on and contribute to a work-in-progress theatre production of SEAS students, Caryl Churchill's Vinegar Tom, which is scheduled for performance at ELTE and other venues in April-May. Besides this, participants of the seminar will watch several (2 or 3) current theatrical performances in Budapest, in productions of both established, permanent theatres and experimental fringe companies. Guests from the world of the theatre will be invited for discussion (dramaturges, actors, etc.). As the language of the course is necessarily partly Hungarian (and scheduled performances—except for Vinegar Tom—will also be in Hungarian), it is offered for Hungarian-speaking students. Set texts: Caryl Churchill: Vinegar Tom and the playtexts of the productions, plus some secondary literature concerning the productions (the exact list of readings will be handed out in class).
requirements & assessment
Active participation in discussion and workshop, a presentation on a given topic, a short journal OR essay (4-5pp) on one of the productions at the end of the term.
