3-credit seminar, 30 h/term; strong prereq: BBN-ANG-001
description & set texts
This class is an introduction to American academic writing. Emphasis will be placed on the academic communication skills necessary to function in the academic environment of a university. We will discuss how to communicate properly with professors, your academic colleagues, and compose material for formal communication. This course will focus on language development through discussion and presentation about global issues with heavy attention paid to the social and foreign policy issues facing the United States. Students will need to familiarize themselves with these issues through readings and group work.
requirements & assessment
The class requires the completion of three presentations throughout the semester and a short essay at the semester's conclusion. This essay will be roughly 1000 words. The course will take you through all the steps of writing a successful essay. You will be handing in your homework online therefore there is no flexibility for deadlines. I understand that you work, you get sick, you are tired, etc. but since these assignments need to be handed in online, there is really no reason for you not to be able to hand them in on time.
