description & set texts

Practising teachers know that no two courses and no two students are the same. In order to successfully teach a foreign language, teachers must constantly adjust their methods and materials according to the needs of their students. This interactive lecture course will focus on identifying learner differences and examining how to build on those differences in the foreign language class. The topics to be covered include learner beliefs, anxiety, motivation and demotivation, learning styles and strategies, and teaching learners with disabilities such as deafness or dislexia.

The course will have a part lecture & part seminar format. Apart from getting input from the instructor, the participants will take part in small group discussions. The course requires substantial reading from class to class.Participants are expected to have passed the Applied Linguistics lecture course and at least Methodology I.

Texts:

Core text: Kontráné H.E and Kormos J. (2004) A nyelvtanuló. Budapest: Okker.

Additional readings will consist of journal articles and selected chapters from books.
