The aim of this seminar is to examine the different strategies of translation, to analyze and evaluate the Hungarian translation of different 20th century American novels and short stories, and will mainly focus on translations of works by Ernest Hemingway, J.D. Salinger, Jerzy Kosinski, Philip Roth, Bret Easton Ellis, Jay McInerney, Arthur Phillips. Each session will focus on a specific problem typical of the analyzed text. Requirements: Oral presentation in class or home essay and active participation in class. Assessment: Grades will be based on one shorter essay and on class participation.
