Kántor Gergely, Fri 13:00–14:30, ADS 211, host: DELG (R301)
description & set texts
DESCRIPTION. As this seminar accompanies the ANN-243 Syntax I lecture, I aim at helping students get prepared for the endterm exam, if students formulate this goal at the beginning of the term. Moreover, I will try to answer students' questions about the lecture material, if they feel there are problematic points and issues difficult for them to understand. In this seminar we will mainly concentrate on the basic lexical and functional categories, and the phrases related. We will also look for general principles responsible for these phrases. SET TEXTS: Certain short chapters from Cook, V.J. and Mark Newson (1996) Chomsky's Universal Grammar, Oxford: Blackwell; Haegeman, Liliane and Jacqueline Guéron (1999) English Grammar: a Generative Perspective, Oxford: Blackwell; and Radford, Andrew (1988) Transformational Grammar, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.
requirements & assessment
REQUIREMENTS: writing two of the three in-class tests, doing home assignments, writing a home paper. ASSESSMENT is based on the average of the in-class tests and the quality of the home paper. If your final score happens to be below the red line (min. 50%=pass) in May, the University's Studies and Exams Code (ETVSz 49.§ (1) bek.) and the Faculty's Studies and Exams Code (KTVSz 82.§ (1) bek.) enable me to give you the opportunity of having a post-term oral retake exam in order for you to get a valid mark for the seminar, which I will not hesitate to do.
