Requirements: 1. You are receiving 5 credits for this course; therefore, you must put in the time to earn those credits. There is no flexibility in the credits or number of hours. It is expected that you will spend a minimum of four hours a week (2 hours for each advisee) in the writing center. Depending on the agreement with your advisees, you may choose to break up their time according to your and their needs. Since the center will only be open when I am at school, your hours need to be coordinated with my hours. See below. 2. You will attend a training seminar at the beginning of the semester and a second tutor’s only session before the break. 3. You will be assigned up to 2 students who you will work with the entire semester. 4. You will keep a record of your attendance and theirs on a weekly basis and turn it in. Dates and times. If a student fails to show for a session, I must be notified immediately. 5. You will keep a separate log for each student you are advising. Each log will contain: o the students self-assessment of their problems with writing. o your assessment of their problems with writing. o a synopsis of the project(s) or paper(s) worked on with the advisee, o identify the on-going problem(s) the student(s) is/are having, o what you did to address their writing problems, o what you had the student(s) accomplish during your 1 ˝ hour session. o a brief report on their progress or lack of learning from one session to another. o any issues with compliance; are they motivated in their work or are they wasting time? 6. Logs will be turned in at the end of each session. 7. Tutors are permitted to offer any justifiable supplemental materials they feel will aid the advisee(s). Copies of the material should be attached to the log. Examples may include: Grammar worksheets, dictionary work, vocabulary exercises, but these should be limited. Focus on the advisees writing. 8. Time in the lab without an advisee does not count toward your time commitment. Any missed time due to either you or your advisee must be made up. 9. Only academic papers or projects are allowed.
