Introduction to Feminist Criticism (Bevezetés a feminista kritikába) in spring 2005
Federmayer Éva, Fri 15:00–16:30, ADS 305, host: DAS (R306)
description & set texts
After the turbulent 1960s in the USA and Europe, crucial revisions of (white, Euro-American, male, elitist) Culture took place within and without the academy, seeking to challenge naturalized concepts of subjectivity, (social) order and (high) literacy. Feminist thinking is one of the major representatives of these subversive interrogations that resulted in a multiplicity of theories and practices critiquing social beliefs and attitudes toward the power dynamics of sex/gender. Assuming that the understanding of multicultural democracy in the US is inconceivable without a fair knowledge of Anglo-American feminisms, this course aims to give an introduction to the history of misogyny and the feminist challenge thereof, including the linguistic, psychoanalytic, medical, literary, and visual interpretations of "Woman" (interfacing with race, ethnicity, class and sexuality) in Euro-American culture(s). The texts will be available in Feminisms (ed. Robyn R. Warhol and Diane Price Herndl, Rutgers UP, 1993) and in a Reading Packet deposited at the copy center.
