About the Fall School
The Computational Linguistics Fall School was established by the German Linguistics Association as a biennial event for students who wish to broaden their knowledge of techniques and methods used in natural language processing. The motivation is to give interested students an understanding of innovative and emerging fields in computational linguistics, including fields not traditionally taught in standard degree programs. All lectures will be in English. In 2009 the Fall School will be held at the University of Konstanz, Germany.

Courses
Courses will run for two weeks in order to ensure that students can receive credit for the courses at their home university under the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS).
Each course is worth 9 credits (MA level). A certificate of attendance will be issued by the Department of Linguistics at Konstanz.
Language: Talks will be in English. Courses will be held in English; the language of the fall school will be English and German.
You don't need to be a member of the DGfS to attend!

Course 1: LFG Grammar Development and Semantic Construction (XLE and XFR)
Miriam Butt (Universität Konstanz) and Richard Crouch (Powerset Inc., Microsoft)

Course 2: Anaphora Resolution
Massimo Poesio (University of Essex and Universita di Trento)

Course 3: Sentiment Analysis: Subjectivity, Opinion and Point of View
Michael Strube (EML Research gGmbH Heidelberg)

Course 4: Data-driven and Hybrid Approaches to Machine Translation
Martin Forst (PARC) and Alexander Fraser (IMS)

Registration
Early Registration by June 15, 2009 (Euro 125), Final Registration by July 31, 2009 (Euro 150)

Stipends
Deadline: April 6, 2009
The Fall School is able to provide 10 students with stipends (granted by the DGfS-CL). If you wish to apply for a stipend, please send your CV along with a cover letter to Angelika Albrecht (angelika.albrecht at uni-konstanz dot de). Students from developing countries will be preferred.
