Er, an OK replacement term for 'soon'! As I saw in some American sources, 'recently' might be used in indirect speech as well or might be replaced by 'shortly before'. :?

I also thought that there are only phrase-like forms of them, but I haven't met anything like them...

Most of the time-adverbs have a form in reported speech (for the past, of course), e.g. 'today' - 'that day', 'tomorrow' - 'the next day', 'last week' - 'a week before', etc. ...

My question is for example: what is this sentence in reported speech:

"I've seen him several times lately/recently."

He said that he had seen him several times ******?????

In reported (indirect) speech changes may happen to the expressions of time; e.g. ‘I'll come tomorrow’ becomes ‘He said he'd come the following day’. [*edit*] But IMHO recently is not among the adverbs that you'd have to change in indirect speech. [*edit*]

I've got an easy question:

What are 'lately' and 'recently' in reported speech?
